Where are you located ?
Valtos is approximately 14 miles
north of Portree on the A855 road to Staffin. This is a scenic
drive with spectacular views of lochs, hills and the sea. The Old
Man of Storr and Lealt Gorge are popular attractions en
route.
From the kitchen window our guests can enjoy the panoramic views to the Trotternish Ridge, while the front gives an open view of the sea, looking across to Gairloch and the Torridon hills on the mainland. The stunning Kilt Rock viewpoint is only a short walk from the house and the village of Staffin, 3 miles away, has a convenience store, restaurant and cafe. The Columba 1400 community centre offers internet facilities. The Glenview Hotel, 1 mile from the house, has a licensed restaurant.

How do we get there ?
By Road
The most popular way of getting to Skye is by car. Follow the
A87 through
Kyle of Lochalsh,
cross the Skye Bridge
and continue on the A87 until you reach Skye's main
town, Portree. From Portree head north on the A855 and follow
the signs for Staffin. Valtos is a distance of approximately 14
miles from Portree.
How to find
us
As you near your destination you will pass the
Glenview Hotel on your left. The sign post for Valtos is about
½ mile beyond the hotel. Continue in to the village
until you pass a house on the right. Drive slowly on and you will
see Tulach Gorm on the left, set off from the road up a short
driveway. If you reach the Kilt Rock viewpoint car park then you
have gone too far towards Staffin.
By Road and Sea
For those who would like to be conveyed 'over
the sea to Skye' the alternative route is to take the road to the
Isles. Take the A830 from Fort William to Mallaig and cross to
Armadale in the south of Skye using the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry.
This crossing takes 30 mins (see www.calmac.co.uk for timetable and bookings). Follow
the A851 from Armadale and turn left at its junction with the A87,
continue as above through Broadford to Portree
By Coach
Citylink operate a regular service to Portree from
Glasgow and Inverness.
By Air
Inverness is the nearest airport to the Isle of Skye. A number of
airlines operate flights to Inverness and Glasgow from London
(EasyJet - Luton, FlyBe - Gatwick). Flights to either of these
airports are best suited for travelling to Skye
Car hire is available at both airports; the journey from Inverness
to Skye is about 3 hours by car and approximately 5 hours from
Glasgow.
By Rail
The Caledonian sleeper runs from London to Inverness and Fort
William. From Inverness you can get a connecting train to Kyle of
Lochalsh. From Fort William there are connecting
trains to Mallaig where you can catch a ferry to Armadale
on Skye.
By Ferry
Caledonian MacBrayne operate ferries from Mallaig to Armadale and
from the Western Isles to Uig.
